Sweden

Officially the Kingdom of Sweden, this country in northern Europe lies on the Scandinavian peninsula next to Norway in the west and Finland in the northeast, with a long coastline that lies along the Baltic Sea.

The third largest country in the European Union, like its neighbours, Sweden has become a popular holiday destination thanks to its beautiful unblemished landscapes, historic towns, a large array of healthful outdoor activities and a smorgasbord of delicious dishes!

Today one of the most efficient and ecological countries in the world, Sweden’s past is marked by its warrior Vikings and its mythological Norse tales. Sweden has long exported its culture in the form of the Scandinavian design, actresses such as Greta Garbo and Anita Ekberg and the films of Ingmar Bergman.

Even younger passengers can appreciate Swedish culture; this is the ideal place to introduce them to Astrid Lindgren, who wrote the famous Pippi Longstocking books for children! Sweden’s waterways, canals and the archipelago at the entrance to Stockholm makes this country ideal for cruising.

Our MSC cruise liners travel to a variety of destinations around Sweden including the historic city of Goteborg the capital, Stockholm and the beautiful medieval city of Visby, a UNESCO world heritage site and the best-preserved medieval city in Scandinavia. Goteborg is lined with pretty canals and has good museums for children. Visitors can swim in Stockholm’s pristine canals and is home to the Royal Palace.

Sweden is where you can discover the ‘magic of the Baltics’ and create some cruise holiday memories.
